Vertcoin, a P2P decentralized cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin and Litecoin, is dedicated to keeping its mining functions decentralized, making it ASIC resistant. Unlike Scrypt-based ASIC mining chips that can cause a drop in the strength of a cryptocoin, Vertcoin introduced Scrypt-Adaptive-Nfactor to prevent concentration of power. The coin does not have premining and is capped at 84 million coins. After surviving a major setback post-2015, Vertcoin has made a steady climb in the market. Its unique feature of punishing miners who monopolise the mining market using powerful machines has made it a potential Bitcoin successor, according to a 2014 International Business Times report. Vertcoin has introduced several updates over the years including a wallet supporting Stealth Address transactions, and the Segregated Witness (SegWit) feature which includes the Lightning Network technology.
