Steem is a cryptocurrency that offers rewards to users for building communities by posting and upvoting valuable content. Its main platform, Steemit, is a social media network built on the Steem blockchain, rewarding users with cryptocurrency for participation. Much like Reddit and Medium, content that provides greater value to more people can earn its creators and curators more. A voting system determines the hierarchy of content, and users holding more currency have a greater influence on votes. In addition to Steemit, the Steem community offers another service, D.tube, which is a blockchain-based service likened to YouTube, displaying earnings along with likes, shares, and comments. However, the Steemit community has been accused of publishing plagiarized content.
