Nxt is a public blockchain that uses blockchain technology to create an ecosystem of decentralized features with its own currency. Instead of using the Bitcoin code, Nxt developers wrote new code in Java. It is now owned by Jelurida BV, with Kristina Kalcheva exploring open source licenses. The main developer is an anonymous Star Trek fan named Jean-Luc Picard. Jelurida is also working on Nxt 2.0, known as Ardor, to address scalability with its concept of child chains. These features, combined with the PoS approach, allow the sending of encrypted/plain text and allow users to use the blockchain for file-sharing services. Despite criticism from Jeff Garzik, Nxt is still active, but has suffered from blockchain bloat, which is why Ardor/Ignis was created.
